Play Music Theory is a browser-based music drawing game and visual music instrument by Tala Rae Schlossberg. It explores the relationship between sound, shape, and time: the marks you draw become the starting point for a small musical idea, while the instrument and rhythm settings shape how that idea feels. This is a relaxed place to make music online without opening a traditional score. Draw a melody-like line, try a different sound, slow the tempo for space, or add rhythmic detail when the sketch needs more movement. The short edit-and-listen loop makes it easy to experiment, keep a favorite version, and come back with a new idea.

You do not need to read sheet music to get started. Choose Pen and draw a short line, a hill, a loop, or any shape that feels interesting in the large canvas. Pick a color and an instrument, then press Play: your drawing becomes a musical sketch that you can hear right away. Once you have a first idea, make it more expressive. Switch between Major and Minor, change Notes per beat, choose a beat pattern, and move the tempo until the rhythm feels comfortable. If the result is too busy, use Undo or Eraser to simplify the drawing; Restart and Shuffle are useful when you want a fresh direction. When you have a version worth keeping, export it as WAV or MIDI, or open Share your piece and continue exploring the gallery.
